The central government employees of various offices struck work as part of the all-India agitation, in pursuance of their  list of demands here on Wednesday.

The members of Confederation of Puducherry Government Employees Association and Pondicherry State Government Employees Central Federation staged protests separately in front of the head post office and Avai Thidal in Saram, respectively.

Lakshumansamy, leader of the Pondicherry State Government Employees Central Federation, addressing the striking employees, demanded immediate constitution of the 7th pay commission. He said the employees were not adequately compensated for the spiraling prices. The agitating employees wanted the Centre to merge the 50 per cent of the D A with the basic pay and scrap new pension scheme, being implemented without legislative approval.

They demanded filling the vacant posts and stopping outsourcing of jobs, which was being done at higher cost to the exchequer.
