PM responsible for Cauvery deadlock: BJP

The BJP on Saturday blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Cauvery deadlock, stating that he had failed to bring together the states to find an amicable solution.

Addressing a press conference, BJP national secretary Muralidhar Rao said that when a similar situation arose in 1999, the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, brought together the states and found a middleground acceptable to all. “This showed his mature skills of persuasion. The current prime pinister failed on this front and let the matter escalate,” he said.

However, when asked why the BJP national leadership did not intervene when its government in K’taka failed to adhere even to orders of the Supreme Court, Rao gave an evasive reply, saying the TN BJP firmly stood for the rights of Tamil farmers.
