The Department of Food Science and Technology of the Pondicherry University has acquired a state-of-the-art food processing pilot plant, with financial assistance from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India.
The facility houses various food processing equipment of semi-industrial scale such as canning and retort unit, spray drying unit, modified atmosphere packing unit, industrial baking unit, freeze drying, tray dryer and fluidized bed dryer and other smaller equipment, a release from the university said.
The plant has an analytical laboratory for food analysis. Prof J A K Tareen, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University, will inaugurate the pilot plant on Wednesday.
