Jaya gives more teeth to Goondas Act

Chief Minister  J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday presented a supplementary budget of sorts at the end of intense deliberations that went on for three days during the conference of district collectors and police officers, by making 343 announcements covering all sections of the society. In a first, the conference was held for three days this year, she said.

Amendments to the Goondas Act was one of the important announcements. Instead of habitual offenders, those who commit even a single offence that has the propensity to disturb public order, would also be detained under the Goondas Act.
