The ATM of a PSU bank situated near Raja Theatre bus stop in the city was broken by thieves in an attempt to loot the money in it on Sunday.

People alerted Canara Bank officials after they found that the ATM on the Tiruchy - Madurai Road was found broken on the top. Soon, Fort police station crime police officials headed by Inspector Balakumaran reached the spot and conducted inquiries with the people in the area. Later, forensic experts were called to lift fingerprints from the broken machine.

During the attempt, an unknown gang tried to break open the machine. But their attempts failed as they succeeded in removing only the top portion of the machine. The money was found intact. Around three months back, a similar attempt was made at another ATM without any gain.
