Tamil Nadu to give Rs.100,000 to slain girl's kin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Monday announced a solatium of Rs.100,000 to the family of a school girl who was murdered after a rape bid last week in Tuticorin district.

The opposition DMK party is gearing up to hold a protest meeting in front of the Tuticorin collectorate Wednesday to protest against the incident.

In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa expressed grief at the death of the victim and said a sum of Rs.100,000 had been ordered to be given to her family.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi, in a statement issued here, said that the party's Tuticorin unit had given Rs.50,000 to the victim's family.
