DMK men forget Periyar

The DMK has given a Periyar a slip, or so it seems, at least in Pudukkottai district. The district DMK functionaries who celebrated the birthday of actor Udhayanidhi, son of party treasurer M K Stalin last month in a grand manner, totally ignored the death anniversary of E V R Periyar, the founder of the Dravidian movement.

DMK functionaries reasoned that top leaders of the district were away as they had gone to the funeral of Shanthakumari, wife of party general secretary K Anbazhagan.  When contacted, the DMK functionaries said “We have not observed the death anniversary of Periyar for a long time now. None of the district leaders informed us to observe it either. Is it important for the DMK?”, the party worker wondered.

On November 27, this year, the cadre celebrated the birthday of Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi, who is also an actor, in a pompous manner with digital flex banners and wall posters throughout the district.
