300 Kg ration rice seized, three arrested

Three hundred kilograms of ration rice, which was being smuggled to Andhra Pradesh, was seized in Gudiyatham on Tuesday. Three persons were arrested in this connection.

When the highway patrol police were on their regular rounds near Anupumedu around 11 am on the Baradarami-Gudiyatham Road near Andhra Pradesh border on Tuesday morning, they intercepted an autorickshaw on suspicion.  Following this, a vehicle check was conducted which revealed the hidden sacks of ration rice.

Based on the information provided by the patrolling police, Baradarami police arrived at the scene and seized 300 kg of ration rice being smuggled to Andhra Pradesh in the auto.

The autorickshaw involved in the smuggling was also seized.

The driver of the autorickshaw, Uthiran (29) of MGR Nagar, and two others involved in the smuggling - Ramesh (32) of MGR Nagar and Umpathy (30) of Balanveetupatti, Agravaram village near Gudiyatham - were arrested in this connection.

The police said they were remanded to Gudiyatham sub-jail and the seized rice would be handed over to the Civil Supplies godown at Sedhukarai.
