Sexual harassment against women was on the rise in the State and the government should bring the culprits to book, DMK MP Kanimozhi said here on Wednesday.
Kanimozhi was addressing a demonstration organised by the DMK in front of the district collectorate condemning the recent rape attempt on and murder of a Class VII girl near Seydunganallur in the district.
“Lakhs and crores of rupees cannot replace the lost girl, justice should be rendered to her family,” she added. Like in Delhi, people should rise up against sexual harassment of women, she said. “Are we going to leave an unsafe State for our children? We should raise our voices for the safety of our children,” she urged.
Earlier, Kanimozhi visited the victim’s family at Kilakulam and handed over a solatium of `2 lakh on behalf of the DMK to the girl’s mother, Petchiammal.
