A youth, who eloped with his lover from Kerala to Dharapuram, attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a bus on Thursday as the girl’s relatives tried to catch them near the Dharapuram bus stand.
According to police, Martin Selvaraj (22), a resident of Attapallam in Palakkad in Kerala, fell in love with Asha (15) of Palakkad. As the girl’s parents opposed their love affair, both of them ran away from their homes recently and reached the home of the youth’s relative at Dharapuram in Tirupur district.
Meanwhile on Thursday some relatives of Asha, who came in search of her to Dharapuram, spotted the lovers in front of the Dharapuram bus stand.
Martin, panicked on seeing the gang and asked Asha to commit suicide at the spot immediately. While the girl refused, Martin jumped in front of a TNSTC bus to commit suicide. He sustained severe injuries.
Police rescued and admitted him to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
