Pair of scissors removed from woman’s stomach after 11 years

Doctors at a private hospital in Batlagundu have removed a pair of scissors from the abdomen of a 25-year-old woman after she was admitted with a prolonged stomach pain.

Regina Mary, wife of Mathiyas of Anna Nagar in Kodaikanal, was suffering a pain in her stomach for the past 10 years.

She consulted several doctors and consumed medicines as per their prescriptions.

But no amount of treatment gave her any relief from the pain.

That was when she consulted doctors at a private hospital in Batlagundu. When the doctors at the hospital scanned her stomach, they were shocked to find a pair of scissors inside.

Ashok Stephen, son of Regina Mary, has filed a case at the Kodaikanal police station against a private hospital in Kodaikanal where his mother had undergone a tubectomy surgery in 2001.

It was ever since the surgery that she had been suffering from the stomach pain, he said in his complaint.

Police said that they have started their investigations.

Regina Mary was now admitted at a private hospital in Madurai, the police said adding that they were inquiring about the veracity of the presence of the pair of scissors in her stomach.

They were also investigating whether she had undergone any other surgery in due course.
