Tamil Nadu: Tenth standard results announced

Girls came on top in the class ten examinations in the state with nearly 89 per cent of them passing the Tamil Nadu government-conducted exams, the results for which were announced today.

This was the first set of exams held under the uniform education syllabus, which had generated much political controversy following a regime change in the state and was implemented following court intervention, resulting in alleged delay in distribution of instruction material.

As many as 86 percent of the over 11 lakh students cleared the exams with a Tanjavur student, Srinath, topping the exams with 497 out of 500 marks, according to the results announced by the state government.

A little over 88 per cent of girls and around 84 per cent of boys cleared the exams even as there was a sharp dip in number of students scoring centum in Maths, coming down from around 12000 to around 1100 this time.

Six students came second while 11 shared the third spot.
