Three persons, including a girl’s parents, were arrested in connection with a minor marriage here on Sunday.
According to police, Murugesan (42) a daily wager worker of Periyasamipuram, who was separated from his first wife, married the 16-year-old daughter of Arumugam and Mari alias Mariammal of Sivagiri at a temple in Surandai on May 31.
On getting information about the marriage, Tirunelveli Child Help Line on Friday lodged a complaint with Surandai Police, who registered a case under section 366 IPC and section 8, 9, and 10 of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and arrested the girls’s parents Arumugam and Mari alias Mariammal and Arunasalam, who conducted the marriage. The police are on the look of Murugesan and a few others.
