Chennai: Four nabbed for robbing Rs 43 lakh

Four conmen posing as Income tax sleuths who robbed a businessman of Rs 43 lakh here have been arrested, police said today.

Four special team, formed on the orders of City Police Commissioner J K Tripathy, arrested four of the five accused persons, an official press release here said.

The gang had robbed a grocery shop owner at Ernavoor here under the pretext of conducting raids posing as I-T sleuths and decamped with the money.

Following a complaint, police launched a manhunt and arrested the four while recovering Rs 33 lakh and a car from them, the release added.

Police are on the lookout for one more person who is absconding.
