2 held with fake currency in Salem

The police have nabbed two members of a fake currency racket operating in Salem region on Tuesday.

The gang members belonged to Bihar. They duo were caught by the police while trying to exchange fake currencies at a footwear shop in Rasipuram.

M Usman Kani alias Mohammed (23), and K Akhtar Uljamal (22), of Kasim Nagar in Maldar, Bihar, were part of a five-member gang that had been operating from Salem for the past 25 days. The duo had exchanged 3 fake notes of `1,000 denomination at a cellphone shop on Friday and tried to exchange the notes again on Tuesday.

The purported leader of gang Farook escaped when the police rounded them up at the footwear store. Two others who stayed at the lodge also fled.

A special team effected the arrest while another special team raided the lodge in Salem.
