Two policemen, a special sub-inspector (SSI) and a head constable, have been placed under suspension on Tuesday for having nexus with anti-social elements.
The suspension followed complaints received by the Superintendent of Police, A. Kayalvizhi, regarding SSI Thoppasamy, attached to the Pernambut station, and head constable Ganapathy, attac-hed to Gudiyattam station.
The complaints stated that the two policemen were not discharging their duties pro-perly and were instead helping anti-social elements carry out illegal activities. They were charged with helping bootleggers.
Instead of taking action against the bootleggers, the policemen were helping th-em by tipping them off about department raids.
When the SP received the complaint, she issued suspension orders against the two, which came into effect from Tuesday, according
to a source at the district police office.
The two have been helping anti-social elements smuggle illicit liquor into Vellore district from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. Detailed inquiries will be held, following which action will be taken.
