Unpleasant and carping remarks from neighbours following the death of her groom-to-be led to the alleged suicide of a girl on Thursday.
Police said that the marriage of C Nirmala (26) of Palakkarai with Karthikeyan of Bangalore was scheduled for the month of March. Even as the marriage preparations were on, Karthikeyan died in an accident and the marriage was cancelled.
Adding insult to injury, her neighbours began speaking about the death and started labelling her as a girl whobrought ill-luck upon others.Frustrated over their barbs, she poured kerosene over herself and set herself ablaze when no one was home.She was rushed to the GH, where she died on Thursday.
Palakkarai police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
