Accused attacks cops during interrogation

An inspector and two constables sustained injuries after a history-sheeter, who was said to be involved in several cases, including the recent murder of Finance Minister O Panneerselvam’s relative, allegedly turned violent suddenly and attacked personnel inside the Singanallur police station here on Thursday.

The city police said 32-year-old Samy alias Vellaisamy was picked up on suspicion by inspector Elangovan during a vehicle inspection on Thursday.

The inspector subsequently took him to the station for further inquiry. “Around noon, the accused suddenly attempted to escape and hit his head on a glass pane nearby.
