Goondas Act to book gamblers

To curtail online gambling and the sale of lottery tickets in the district, the police department is taking measures to detain the gamblers under Goondas Act. The police has also sought the help of the public to give information about persons indulging in such illegal activities.

The police, in a press statement, said that anti-social elements have been indulging in selling lotteries and online cotton gambling over mobile phones. The police has been taking measures to nab the culprits and book them under Goondas Act.

It may be recalled that the police had nabbed two persons - Senthil Kumar (33) of Kalaspalayam in Vellore and Subramani (40) of Arcot - three days ago for running cotton gambling in different parts of the district. The police have also seized a car, two motorbikes and computer from Senthil Kumar.
