Three arrested for dowry harassment

Personnel from the All Women Police Station (AWPS), Ambur, detained 20-year-old Shaila’s husband and in-laws on charges of dowry harassment. Shaila’s husband, Vimal Kumar (24), a resident of Kezhil Kanth Rampalli, and her in-laws Wilson (47) and Deiva Kumari (43) were arrested on charges of beating her and chasing her out of the house demanding dowry.

Based on Shaila’s complaint with the All Women Police on Friday, police registered a case against the three under sections 498(a), 294(b) and 506(i) of IPC and Section 4 of Dowry Prevention Act and had remanded them to prison.

Two Killed, One Injured in Road Accident

T’ Malai: Two women, one of whom was newly married, were killed and a man sustained injuries in a road accident near Periya Iyampalayam, when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Usha (24), wife of Muthukumar, and Kamalammal (55), mother of Muthukumar. They died on the spot while Muthukumar sustained injuries, said the Kannamangalam police.

The trio were returning to their native village from Tirupathi. Muthukumar, who was driving the car, lost control of it and rammed into a tree.

Muthukumar was admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Three Held in Waylaying Case

Vellore: Gudiyattam police on Sunday arrested three people in connection with a waylaying case and recovered `2.42 lakh in cash and seized a motorbike from them.

A police team on Sunday chased and nabbed three youth who did not stop their motorbike at the check post. On inquiry, they found that the trio - Vijay (26) of Vettuvanam in Vellore, Ayyappan (22) and Babu (22) of Bengaluru possessed a large amount of cash. Police recovered `75,100 from Vijay, `84,900 from Ayyappan and `82,150 from Babu respectively, said the Superintendent of Police, A Kayalvizhi.

The trio confessed to be involved in the waylaying case of a jewellery agent, Kuppusamy of A Mottur, in Gudiyattam on May 17.

They, along with their associates, robbed `5 lakh from Kuppusamy when he was on his way to the railway station to go to Chennai to purchase new gold ornaments. said the police attached to Gudiyattam Town.
