A dalit organisation submitted a petition to the Coimbatore Collector M Karunakaran demanding action against Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner T K Ponnusamy for misusing his office.
In his petition, Illamurugu from Tamil Puzhigal, alleged that sanitary workers from Wards 23 and 24 were taken to a farm land in Thekkalur, belonging to Ponnusamy, by corporation west zone health inspector Aandiyappan for a week and were asked to plant 1,500 teakwood saplings. It was a clear case of misuse of power, he charged.
“In total, 18 sanitary workers were asked to work on the 40-acre farm land near Karumathampatti.” Karunakaran asked the workers to lodge a complaint directly. Dalit organisations plan to stage a protest demanding action against corporation officials on June 15 .
