HC declines to interfere with spending of AIADMK government

The Madras High Court has declined to interfere with the spending of the ruling AIADMK government on advertisements, holding that it is a political issue.

In a writ petition, social activist K R Ramaswamy had sought a direction to the state government 'to stop unwanted expenses through huge unwanted advertisements at present and in the future.'

"The relief sought for in the writ petition cannot be granted since in our view it is purely a political issue and it is for the government to check the financial expenses," the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam said and dismissed the petition at the admission stage.
