Lover held for ditching nurse

A27-year-old car driver was arrested at Thirumangalam near Anna Nagar after his neighbour lodged a complaint of cheating on Thursday. Priya (name changed) (23) a home nurse from Anna Nagar West had been in a relationship with her neighbour Sadasivam (27) for the past one and half years, police said. However, the man, who allegedly promised marriage did not live up to it.

The woman lodged a complaint with the All Women Police Station at Thirumangalam and Sadasivam was arrested under IPC sections 417 (Punishment for cheating) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property). “He was in a relationship with the complainant, had sexual relationship with her and refused to marry. We have arrested him,” a police official said.

Priya told Express that she had known the man since her childhood and had been very close with him for the past four years. “He pampered me with gifts and said he would take care of me as I do not have parents. We did have physical relationship but he kept pressuring for more,” the woman said.

Problems began after she refused his demands for physical intimacy. Sadasivam said he would marry another woman chosen by his parents, the complainant alleged. “We belonged to a different caste. I begged him and his mother, but both raised the caste issue,” the woman recalled.

Priya claimed that she threatened to commit suicide after which a local politician, allegedly close to Sadasivam’s family, asked her to stay away from him and not approach police.

“Sadasivam told the politician that he treated me like a sister and that it was only one sided love,” Priya said and added that she had been asked to appear on Friday for a medical test.
