Three women among 14 bootleggers held

Clamping down on the illicit arrack racket across the district, the district Prohibition Enforcement Wing arrested 14 persons including three women and seized  arrack cans and vehicles from them on Thursday.

As many as 350 litres of illicit arrack and 50 Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bottles were seized during raids conducted in Attur, Gengavalli, Kadambur, Thalaivasal and Manivizhundhan Colony. DSP Chandrasekaran (PEW) informed that 13 persons including three women were arrested and three motorcycles and two mopeds seized during Thursday’s raids.Cases have been booked, the DSP said.

Diluted IMFL Seized

In yet another operation at Seelanickenpatti and Kondanaikenpatti in the morning, police intercepted an autorickshaw at Kondalampatti and found 400 bottles of IMFL inside the vehicle.

Upon being interrogated, the driver Afzar (32), a resident of Ammpet, confessed that he bought the IMFL bottles from a government liquor shop in Kondalampatti and that he planned to sell it to a woman in Ammapet.  The bottles, which contained liquor diluted with water, were sold by some women at certain petty shops.Afzar was arrested and the IMFL bottles seized.
