In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old girl was raped by a 45-year old building contractor allegedly with the consent of her mother on Thursday.
The girl, who hailed from a village that came under Silaiman police limits, was being treated at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
The incident came to light when the Government Rajaji Hospital doctors examined the girl, who was brought there by her mother.
The doctors at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology found continuous bleeding from the girl’s genitals.
Suspecting sexual assault on the girl, the doctors alerted the GRH police. They, in turn, informed the Silaiman police station.
Silaiman police conducted inquiries with the girl’s 35-year-old mother.
She reportedly confessed that her daughter was raped by Ravi (45) of Vandiyur.
Police said that Ravi, a money lender and a civil contractor, had an extra marital relationship with the girl’s mother.
He often visited her house without the knowledge of her husband.
Police also said that during one such visit on June 14, Ravi had sex with the girl with the consent of the mother. The intercourse resulted in bleeding from the girl’s genitals.
The mother noticed the bleeding in the morning and took the girl to a private hospital on June 15. Since the private hospital denied admission, she took the girl to Government Rajaji Hospital here around noon the same day.
Silaiman police have registered a case and arrested the girl’s mother. They are on the look out for Ravi, who has gone underground.
