Superstar Rajinikanth called on DMK chief M Karunanidhi at the latter’s Gopalapuram residence here on Saturday. The actor turned up at Karunanidhi’s residence at 10.45 am, while the DMK patriarch’s wife Dayalu Ammal was also present.

After a brief interaction, Rajinikanth told reporters that it was only a courtesy visit as he had not met Karunanidhi after recovering from his illness. “I greeted Karunanidhi on his 89 birthday on June 3 over phone since I was out of station. That’s why I have come to greet him in person.” He was in Bangalore at the time of Karunanidhi’s birthday.

Sources said Karunanidhi had inquired the actor about the progress of ‘Kochadaiyaan’, his upcoming movie.

DMK treasurer M K Stalin had called on Rajinikanth at his residence prior to the Assembly election on March 22. On the day of polling, video grabs of Rajinikanth voting for two leaves, the symbol of AIADMK, was aired by TVs.

Later, when Rajinikanth fell ill and was admitted for a brief period in a Singapore hospital, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa as well as Karunanidhi had spoken to him over phone.
