Police foil bid to smuggle ration rice

The Pernambut police on Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle around one ton of ration rice to Andhra Pradesh. They handed over the seized rice to the Vellore unit of the Civil Supplies CID.

Acting on a tip-off that they received about the ration rice smugglers, a team of five police personnel rushed to Chinna Bazaar in Pernambut around 3.30 am on Sunday. Four persons who were loading gunny bags containing PDS rice on the van abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot as soon as they spotted the policemen.

The police team confiscated the van and discovered 20 bags of ration rice, each weighing around 50 kg, loaded inside it.

They later registered a case and launched a manhunt for Parthiban and Kannan of Pernambut and Dhanasekar and Manjunathan from V.Kotta in Andhra Pradesh, in connection with the case.
