Around 200 BJP cadre, along with their national secretary Vani Tripathi, courted arrest as part of national Jail bharo agitation against the “misgovernance and misrule” of the Congress-led UPA government at the centre.

The BJP cadre blocked the road at Pattanikadai junction and shouted slogans against the central government.

Those arrested include BJP unit president, SPK Dhamodhar, other office bearers of the party and several cadre, including several women.

Tripathi flayed the central government for the state of economy, falling value of the rupee, slowing down of growth and burdening the common man with hike in prices of petrol, LPG and inflation. On the other hand, scams and feud between ministers were rocking the UPA boat. The people had no other option but to hit the streets and BJP was with them, she said.
