Leaders slam ‘vendetta’ politics

DMK leaders and functionaries who spoke at a public meeting held here at Purasawalkam on Friday came down heavily on what they called ‘vendetta politics’ unleashed against the party leaders during the past one year by foisting cases against them.

The meeting was organised to explain the importance of the resolution adopted at the executive committee meeting of the party held earlier in the day. DMK president M Karunanidhi said that the AIADMK government had been throwing the principles nurtured by Dravidian leaders like Periyar and Anna to the winds.

He said some of the political parties might raise apprehensions that violence might erupt during the July 4 Jail Bharo agitation planned by the DMK. “But we will never give room for violence ... we should be even ready to hand over those who indulge in violence to the police,” Karunanidhi said.

DMK leaders, including party general secretary K Anbazhagan, former Ministers Durai Murugan and K Ponmudy, party MPs TKS Elangovan, Kanimozhi and Dayanidhi Maran, and MLA J Anbazhagan, criticised the State government.
