Three persons from Chennai, who drove through the ‘one way’ on Nehru street, were held by the police here on Thursday night.
The trio, Kuberan, Ravi and Ramkumar got into a heated argument with Achuthan, the police constable, who had questioned their entry to the one-way street. Auto-drivers in the area also supported the constable.
The trio was taken to Grand Bazaar Police Station following a complaint by the constable that they tried to manhandle him. On learning about the incident, AINRC MLA and government whip G Nehru intervened, and staged a demonstration at the office of the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), N T Sivadasan. The trio was released on Friday morning.
