3 warders suspended in Kovai jail

A day after a parcel containing large number of banned items was seized in the Coimbatore Central Prison, three warders were suspended for allegedly colluding with prisoners in smuggling the items into the prison. Prison officials said the three warders, R Dinesh, R Gunasekaran and C Sivamoorthy, had conspired with three prisoners, of whom two were ex-Al Umma members, to smuggle the items into the prison.

Based on a complaint from jalior in-charge K Vengopal, the Race Course police have booked prisoners S Hakkim, M Hakkim @ Anwar, and A Ibrahim for assaulting and intimidating the prison officers while conducting the search operation. “After an internal probe, we found that the three warders were involved in the smuggling. While Dinesh flung the parcel into the prison, two other warders communicated it to the prisoners”, said Murugesan, jail Superintendent.
