NAMAKKAL: A Dalit family residing at Jedarpalayam near Paramathi-Velur has alleged that some revenue officials, who, bowing to pressure from some caste Hindus from the village evicted their neighbours, were now trying to demolish their house though they had proper land documents.

According to D Sivaraj of Vadagarayathur village in Jedarpalayam, on Friday, a group of revenue officials led by Paramathi-Velur tahsildar Ravi and deputy tahsildar S Karunanidhi, forcefully demolished six houses located near a cremation ground in the area.

“Seven families have been living here for several years. We secured a patta for the land under our possession in 1994. Even though we produced the patta documents, the revenue officials did not heed our plea,” he claimed.

In her petition to the District Collector, Sivaraj’s mother D Bhagyalakshmi alleged that some officials had even coerced them to fall at the feet of the caste-Hindus, she alleged.
