NAMAKKAL: An ancient spear was found at a lake at Pachal village near here on Wednesday. “Workers who were engaged in desilting the lake under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme found the spear,” Namakkal Tahsildar R Pushpavathi told media persons.
She said that the spear measured around one-and-a-half feet in length and weighed about 500 gms. The spear is believed to have archaic value, she added.
On information, the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) Bhoopathi arrived at the spot and recovered it.
The spear appeared to have been made of copper, the tahsildar said.
Later, it was sent to the archaeological department for examination.
