TIRUPUR: The State’s Women’s Commission, chairperson, Saraswathi Rengasamy advised women to lodge complaints if they face harassment at their work place. Speaking to reporters after participating in a meeting on ‘Formation of Anti-harassment Committee and Violence Prevention System in Export Oriented Garment Factories’ organised by Social Awareness and Voluntary Education (SAVE), an NGO, on Wednesday, she said, “Over the past six months about 530 petitions have been received by the commission, and of this, 60 pertained to harassment at workplace. However such cases do not come to light, as victims prefer to hide them,” she said.

She called upon women to lodge complaints, if they face any harassment in their workplace for immediate action and solution.

“Sexual harassment can be checked if victims lodge complaints. Based on requests, information will be kept confidential for the safety of the complainants.” she assured.

According to A Aloysius, director, SAVE, though the anti-harassment committee at workplace has been made mandatory as by the court, only a few companies in Tirupur have formed it so far.
