CHENNAI: The DMDK is all set to take on the AIADMK in the June 12 Pudukottai byelections, the party announced on Friday night.

With this decision, the DMDK is likely to become the lone opposition party to contest the bypoll as the DMK, the CPI, the PMK and the MDMK have already decided to boycott it.

DMDK’s decision to fight the elections would make it a contest which, otherwise, appeared to be a cakewalk for the ruling AIADMK. The seat fell vacant following the death of CPI MLA S P Muthukumaran in a road accident.

The ruling party has fielded V R Karthik Thondaiman as its candidate.
