CHENNAI: Sale of applications for engineering admissions has picked up at the Anna University in the city this year.

On the fourth day since application sale was opened across centres in the State, the figures crossed the total sales of last year, giving an indication of the sustained interest in engineering courses among students.

Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2012, told Express that the number of applications sold as on Tuesday was 1,63,784 compared to the sale for the entire 2011 season which was only 1,63,509.

Officials said they expected the sale figures to touch two lakh by May 31, the last date for buying the forms.

Like last year, Chennai and Coimbatore continue to register the highest sale numbers with 40,000 and 14,500 respectively as on Tuesday.
