PUDUCHERRY: A government function on Friday was cancelled after the name of an MLA was found to be missing from the invitation.

A one-day workshop on ‘Green Buildings, Infrastructure and Sustainability: Opportunities and Challenges’ was organised by Renewable Energy Agency of Puducherry (REAP) and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) at a hotel in the Raj Bhavan constituency. It was to be inaugurated by electricity minister T Thyagarajan.

However, the name of Congress MLA K Lakshminarayanan was not printed  on the invitation though it had name of the minister and other officials. As per government protocol, during any government event, the local MLA must be invited for the proceedings.

Annoyed over this development, his supporters barged into the hall of the hotel and entered into an argument with the officials.

They said that the AINRC government was denying MLAs, especially those from the opposition parties, their rights. Following an altercation, the workshop was cancelled. Similarly, Legislator PML Kalyanasundaram’s supporters had organised a demonstration in front of the Pondicherry University stating that his name was not printed on the invitation card for the annual convocation to be held on Saturday.
