NAMAKKAL: DVAC sleuths conducted raid at five places, including four in Namakkal district, in connection with embezzlement of scholarship funds for SC students.

According to informed sources, “Five teams, led by DSP Chandramouli, raided the house of Revenue Inspector (RI) A Rani in Rasipuram and the residence of Thiagarajan, chairman of Modern Institute of Catering Technology on Saturday.”

Rani, who worked in the Adi-Dravidar Welfare (ADW) Department earlier, is now the RI of Sellapanpatti. The DVAC team conducted similar raids at the office and residence of Arulkumar, chairman of Arul College of Pharmacy in Namakkal.

Searches were also conducted at the residence of a retired assistant accounts officer of the ADW department K Rani in Salem.“These raids were conducted based on two cases registered by the DVAC on the alleged swindling of money to the tune of Rs 1 crore in the guise of disbursing scholarships to students who were non-existent,” an official said.

He explained that some officials of the ADW department in Namakkal district in collusion with the administrators of private colleges forged documents listing names of students who were not on rolls in these institutions to siphon off the public money. Incriminating documents, including details of bank accounts, were seized during the raids, he noted.

Two FIRs have been registered in this regard.
