VELLORE: The orphanage run by the Social Welfare Department in Katpadi has called for applications for admission of eligible candidates for the forthcoming academic year.

The home at Senguttai village in Katpadi can accommodate around 100 boys and girls and also runs an elementary school. Facilities are also provided for higher studies to those studying in Classes VI to XII in nearby schools.

The home inmates receive free food, accommodation, four sets of uniforms, two sets of footwear and cots for sleeping. For those studying degree courses, an assistance of `30,000 and for those studying in professional courses, an assistance of `50,000 is provided per year.The candidates desiring to join the government home must be orphans. However, a male child below the age of ten, children of a single parent and wards of sick parents and those affected by leprosy can also apply.

In the cases mentioned above, the annual income of the parents must be less than `24,000. A certificate from the Tahsildar should be submitted to the District Social Welfare Officer or the home in-charge.
