CHENNAI:  Among those missing in action at the UPA-II’s anniversary dinner in Delhi on Tuesday were DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his son Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers M K Alagiri.

Karunanidhi clearly had no intention of going to the Capital. He first told the media that he had no invite but later corrected himself after learning that the UPA invite had actually arrived. Alagiri justified his absence from the do, claiming he was on diet.

While Karunanidhi refused to rate the performance of UPA-II, Alagiri promptly gave it a centum — no less. Karunanidhi said every government would have its ups and downs. “How can I rate them?” he asked.
