PUDUCHERRY: An unidentified gang on Wednesday hacked two persons inside the education department complex in full public view.
SP (North) S Ramaraj told Express that Jagdeesh(45), a fishermen community leader, along with his friend Lokanathan had gone to the education department complex to apply for a revaluation of his daughter’s marks.
As the duo was coming out, around 11.30 am, the waiting gang, confronted them. They hacked Jagdeesh in the shoulder, hands and stomach.
Lokanathan, who came to the rescue of his friend, was also attacked.
The assailants escaped immediately, along with another man, who was also waiting inside the complex with a few motorcycles for their escape.
Jagdeesh was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute but succumbed to his injuries around 3.15 pm. Lokanathan (35), who had serious stab wounds, was rushed to a private hospital in Chennai for treatment.
The deceased was the brother of Thambidurai, who was murdered a year ago near Eswaran Koil Street. Both persons belong to fishermen community and hail from Vaithikuppam area.
Ramaraj said previous enmity was reason for the attack.
The police also suspect that the persons accused for the murder of Thambidurai could be behind this murder also. Orleanpet police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, four teams led by inspectors R Raghunayagam, Bascaradoss, sub inspectors Pavithran and Senthil Kumar had been assigned to nab the culprits.
