CHENNAI : Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Saturday said that the Andhra Pradesh government had agreed to release four tmcft of Krishna water from May 20. The water released from Kandaleru reservoir on May 20 would reach Tamil Nadu border on May 30.
In a statement here, the Chief Minister said with the water released from Kandaleru reservoir, the drinking water requirements of Chennai metropolitan city would be fulfilled during the summer.
She recalled her letter to her Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Kiran Kumar Reddy on March 24 requesting him to release water from Kandaleru considering the drinking water requirements of Chennai residents.
Accepting her request, the Andhra Pradesh has conveyed that 500 cusecs of water would be released from Kandaleru from May 20.
As per the agreement between the governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, 12 tmcft of water should be given to Chennai per year.
