TIRUCHY: Ridiculing M Karunanidhi’s dual act of protesting against the Centre, while continuing in the Union Cabinet, AIADMK district secretary R Manoharan on Tuesday said that for the DMK chief, keeping his son M K Alagiri in the Union Cabinet is more important than people’s welfare.

Leading the AIADMK protest against petrol price hike here, Manoharan said, “The members of the public will accept that Karunanidhi is pro-people only if the DMK ministers resigned from the Centre and protested.”  He said it was for the first time since independence that the petrol prices have shot up so steeply in a single stroke. The Centre’s anti-people policies had paved way for the oil companies to fix the price, which had burdened the common man.

The DMK chief had been maintaining double standards by maintaining a good rapport with the Centre and organising a demonstration against the Centre of which it is a part. “If he has the courage, he should ask his party ministers to resign and then fight against the Central government. People will extend their support. His major concern is to keep his son M K Alagiri in the Union Ministry. His only concern is to make his family members happy,” he charged.

Stating that the Congress government had “cheated the people several times”, Manoharan said, the persons identified by ‘Amma’ should become the Prime Minister and the President. “Only she can bring about a change in India”, he quipped and added “the Congress so far could not select a presidential candidate so far as they feared Jayalalithaa”.

MP P Kumar said that due to the Centre’s poor administration, the prices of essential commodities including petrol has increased. Actually, the petrol costs `29 per litre, but it is sold at about `79. According to him the whole nation had been watching TN Chief Minister’s movements and she was capable of leading the nation.
