NAMAKKAL: A woman was killed and two others injured in a collision involving a car, lorry and a motor cycle near here on Wednesday.
According to police, Sathasivam (50) of Mettu Street in Namakkal was returning from Salem along with his wife S Malliga (40) on a motorcycle. A Salem-bound car suddenly jumped over the median, hit a lorry and then collided with his bike before coming to a halt.
The mishap occurred on Kalangani Road overbridge, about 10 km from here.
Sources said that Malliga, who was on the pillion, was thrown off from the overbridge and was killed on the spot.
Her husband Sathasivam and the car driver Gopi of Salem sustained injuries and were admitted to private hospitals.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the car went out of control after one of its tyres burst leading to the accident, sources noted.
Traffic was disrupted on the high way following the accident. Puduchatram police have registered a case.
