TIRUPUR: The body of a new born was found in private bus at Udumalpet late on Tuesday night.

The police said, a private bus, which was plying between Coimbatore to Udumalpet via Pollachi, stopped at the Udumalpet bus stand on Tuesday around 11 pm. Soon after all the passenger alighted, conductor Selvakumar (31), who checked the bus, found a bag beneath a seat and brought it down. He opened the bag and was shocked to find the body of a baby girl, wrapped with a plastic cover, in it.  On information, Udumalpet police reached the spot and recovered the body.

Police said that the baby was one-day-old. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

Udumalpet Inspector Kanagaraj said, “according to the crew no one boarded the bus with the bag between Udumalpet and Tirupur. Somebody must have boarded at Coimbatore with the bag.”

Regarding the death of the baby, he said, “Anything could be said only after the postmortem report. Based on the report we will conduct further investigation.”
