An attempt by cadre of VCK and PMK to paint their party flag colours on a lamp post in Kandadu hamlet near Marakkanam led to clashes between the two groups on Sunday night in which two persons were injured, police said on Monday. Cases were registered against 25 people from both parties, police added.
According to a source, members of both VCK and PMK painted their flag colours on the lamp post, leading to a tense situation in the locality. The Marakkanam police later went to the spot and white-washed the lamp post. They also warned the cadre of both parties against defacing public property.
“A group of 15 VCK members, under the leadership of Jeevarathinam of Mudaliarpettai in Kandadu, painted a lamp post in the colours of their party flag on Sunday night. On seeing this, Honestraj (27), a PMK cadre from the same village argued with them,” a police officer said. He was attacked by VCK members who later ran away. Honestraj was admitted to the Tindivanam government hospital with injuries. Based on his complaint, the Marakkanam police registered a case of attempted murder against the 15 VCK members.
Meanwhile, in a retaliatory attack, Honestraj’s father Sathishkumar along with a few relatives, attacked Mohanraj (17), a VCK cadre of Lorrymedu at Kandadu when he was on his way to the market. Mohanraj was admitted to the Marakkanam GH and was later shifted to Tindivanam GH.
Police registered a case against Sathishkumar and nine others.
