After the arrest of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss on Tuesday, a Quick Response Team from Kancheepuram district in addition to police personnel were deployed here.
Sources said Ramadoss reportedly refused to be arrested on the Chennai road, where the police stopped his vehicle, and told them to arrest him at his protest venue. “Ramadoss told the police that they could have arrested him immediately after he left his residence at Thailapuram. Otherwise, they can arrest him at the protest venue,” according to sources.
“Why should they arrest me midway? My party members are waiting at the venue. Police can arrest me there,” Ramadoss reportedly told the police. Then Villupuram range DIG Murugan agreed to allow Ramadoss to proceed to the protest venue.
Ramadoss said, “We are holding this demonstration to condemn the activities of VCK members. They indulged in violence at Marakkanam and killed two persons. Villupuram district police officers’ failure to take the correct decision when the VCK cadre were blocking the road at Marakkanam and the pre-planned violence by them caused the mess.”
He also demanded a probe into the incident by a sitting High Court judge.
