Rare idols unearthed

Six idols of deities, considered rare, were found when workers were digging pits in the Moolanathasamy Temple at Seethakamangalam recently.

Six idols of deities, considered rare, were found when workers were digging pits in the Moolanathasamy Temple at Seethakamangalam recently.

The idols were located at the Murugan shrine of the temple under the control of HR&CE Department.

On intimation to the Kudavasal Tahsildar, the idols were unearthed in the presence of Revenue Inspector Ramakrishnan.

The details of the find are: one Nardhana Sambandar idol measuring 1 feet 8 inches, one Sani Amman idol measuring (two feet), one Vinayakar idol measuring (two feet), one Deivanai (one feet seven inches), one Chandikeswarar (one feet ten inches) and one Pradosha Nayakar idol (nine inches).

The Department of Archaeology had been informed about the find. The other details would be known after the experts inspected the idols, Ramakrishnan said.
