Lawyers stage stir against SP’s behaviour

Lawyers of Kovilpatti began an indefinite court boycott stir from Thursday condemning the alleged manhandling of the Kovilpatti Judicial Magistrate (JM) by Vijayendra Bidari, SP, Tirunelveli on March 25.

Vijayendra Bidari had earlier visited the Kovilpatti station on March 25 after violence broke out over the desecration of a Muthuramalinga Thevar statue in the town. At that time Chandran, JM-II, Kovilpatti, was also present at the station and he was sitting in the Inspector’s chair. On seeing Tirunelveli SP, cops and others stood up. But the JM, who was in civil dress, remained in the chair.  The SP, who was not aware that the person was a JM, pulled Chandran out of the chair and had ordered him to leave the station. However, when the Magistrate revealed his identity, the SP expressed regret.
