Gandhian on campaign against liquor in Tamil Nadu

A Gandhian, who recently observed fast in Chennai for 34 days seeking prohibition in Tamil Nadu, on Saturday began his campaign against liquor and urged the Government to introduce lessons on ill-effects of liquor from Class five to plus two.

Starting his campaign at Gahdhipura, titled 'funeral to liquor,' Sasiperumal said he and his followers would campaign throughout the State seeking prohibition and his campaign would culiminate at Chennai on January 30 next, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Government should not open new liquor outlets and should remove the existing shops from thickly populated areas and also near educational institutions, he said.

He also sought closure of bars in a phased manner and also reduce the number of shops.
